Dear Friends Of The Blog!
The site has been quiet because my job has picked-up recently and I’m super busy, working hard and — just as any other Mama Capitalist worth her salt — hoping for a nice pay raise. As usual, I’ll keep you updated on all my earnings as a working mom making it in a decent American company.
Inspiration has been brewing while I toil away, though. Here are a few teasers of articles in the pipeline…
Corporate Charity Is A Crime
I have had it up to HERE with corporations trying to bilk American moms out of more money to feed/clothe the poor — for profit.
Corporations are in the business of making profits and have found a way to make charity profitable. We should all beware of this growing practice. I will share my thoughts on that in a future post.
The Political Penis
All of the news surrounding Arnold Schwartzenegger’s dalliances and secret child have my mind moving in all things moms, penises and politics. The fact is we need more moms in politics and less penises (I mean that literally, I have nothing against the men themselves). The political penis problem entered our culture at the same time “The Lewinsky” entered our lexicon. The airing of sexual circumstances of politicians has degraded the context of important social and economic issues that we all need to be focused on. The affect of childish banter on our politics has been embarrassing and needs to be done away with.
Population Issues & The World’s Mothers
My new blogosphere friend, David from Population Oversights and I, have put together an article analyzing solutions to over-population. His blog is a smartly written assessment of our current population challenges and I invite you to visit his site. He’s got an interesting new article up on the film Avatar. And if the political undertones in the film were not interesting enough, it stars one my favorite actors. Our article will be running on both sites very soon!
Also, anyone out there part of Toastmasters? I am thinking about joining as I would like to take my ideas into a public speaking format. Any thoughts on the club would be appreciated!
For those of you that I read and comment frequently, I’ll be visiting again very soon.
Cheers!
Heather

/ July 6, 2011Hi, Heather. I just read your post on Mamapedia and want to reach out to a kindred spirit. I have been reading William Howard Kunstler’s blog, Clusterfuck Nation, and his books (World Made by Hand and Witch of Hebron, both fiction). Sometimes I feel like I’m obsessed with the impending doom, and at the same time going about my life as if it’s a fantasy. Preparing for the future either seems impossible or a fool’s errand. But I’m also optimistic and almost looking forward to the end of technology based on oil. At this moment, I’m enjoying Santa Rosa plums and apricots from my front yard (got rid of the lawn 2 yrs ago). Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, zucchini are coming on in the back (no lawn there either). I even tried potatoes and it worked planting chopped up pieces ! Sweet potatoes are a staple in Africa…they’re next. It helps to be in California. Where are you ?

/ July 9, 2011Hi Donna,
The clusterfucking and innovation has given me plenty of material to write about
I’m totally with you. I have an increasing appreciation for the basics that make living enjoyable but a real fondness and hope that comes with new ideas. You sound awesome in the garden. I kill every thing I grow
. I just killed a tomato plant but I promised my son I would get us another one. I’m sticking to vermicasting currently. I nearly killed all of my worms because it rained in the bin but they are making a miraculous come back! I love hearing from people like yourself — it really inspires me. I will certainly put those books on my to-read list. I’m in the Los Angeles area of CA where the water cost makes gardening a fairly expensive thing to do. What part of CA are you in?

“The political penis” problem is an interesting discussion. I’m not convinced it is a completely new problem. At least a few of our President’s have had similar problems. It was just considered off limits as part of their private lives. Now it is considered fair game.
In many ways we are holding politicans to a new moral standard that never existed before. This new standard is keeping people out of politics. Supposedly, Indiana’s Gov. Mitch Daniels recently decided not to run for President due to maritial issues that were resolved during the 1990s. Daniels’ family did not want to have their issues made into tabloid fodder. Senator Ensign of Nevada recently finally resigned over his alleged illegal actions to pay off his mistress and her husband.
I am not sure that infidelity makes one unfit to be a public servant or if it is even the public’s business. Clearly, if illegal acts are committed that changes everything. What I am sure of is that I am tired of politicians’ infidelities being a main topic of conversation. The US has real issues that need immediate attention. Who our elected officals slept with last should not be taking up our time.

/ May 27, 2011Hi Kendra,
Interesting…I did not know about that politician. The sexual lives of politicians should not be fair game unless they are moving money around as in the case of John Edwards– then the issue should be about the money. People devour anything sexual which is — in part — why I use sexual overtones to bring people to my site.
Hey, I didn’t invent the game but I know how to play by the rules! The main reason I do it is because sex and motherhood are synonamous, even though they are rarely linked in our culture.
That said, I think generally people have tired of this in politics and want more substantive material to focus on. Honorable politicians can be found. Our media does not seem to have anything to talk about unless it is to pick on another person’s personal pecadillos — oddly though, crimes and hypocracy go unchecked.
